fanfic50 #23, Fight.
Slam. And suddenly there he is, gasping, fighting for breath. He feels the burn as his lungs scramble to repay the oxygen debt. He scrabbles around, both mentally and physically, searching for control of both limbs and faculties. His gun is still under his hand, smooth and cold and solid. His hand reflexively clasps around it as his memory starts to catch up. Can't have been out long; the tendrils of adrenaline are still curling around his system, muscles still not cooled from the chase. Gotta learn to do this quietly he thinks crazily as he pushes himself to his feet. Hell of an element of surprise, used the right way. He forces his eyes into focus and surveys. The room is empty now, but there's only one direction the bullet that killed him could have come from and he makes for it, the order to his body to stand down countermanded again. Back into the fray he goes.
