Waking up dead inside of my head
Mar. 20th, 2008 03:49 pmWell, this writing thing is hard than it looks (and I always thought it looked pretty hard anyway). Possibly it's bad for me to read so much writing process meta while writing my first story but I don't seem to be able to stop myself. And anyway, that tends to be my modus operandi. I also find myself wondering what I'll write when I finish this. Some Torchwood maybe? I can't see myself writing Pratchett fic - the source material is too good - and I was never quite engaged enough by the Potter-verse, although some of the AU stuff I've read there is great.
Since finishing the first draft, I have re-drafted the first half to be first person present/retrospective, and taken out the middle short scene which means I can leave the second half in first person present. I'm now at the stage where I re-read it and tweak words and grammar around a lot. I've just been through and marked up the bits where I don't think the tone is quite right and I guess I'll have a look at those tomorrow. I go through phases of being really pleased with it and phases of thinking it's actually pretty terrible and maybe I won't show it to anyone after all but I have made a pact with myself that I will eventually post it no matter what.
